PLAYER SAFETY TO THE FOREFRONT WITH CONCUSSION PROTOCOL

The start of the British basketball season is fast approaching, and teams are to be ramping up their preparations. Coaches are fine tuning their systems, strength & conditioning coaches are finalising their training plans, and physios are stocking up on tape.

Another important area of preparation that should not be overlooked as we prepare for the months ahead is player safety, and an area where we are all still learning more about is concussion.

The dangers of concussion are wide and varying, and can have long term effects on those who suffer them. that is why it is important to educate as many people as we can about how to recognise and act on concussion symptoms to protect the health of players.

Great Britain Basketball have produced a concussion protocol to act as a guide when faced with incidences where there is risk or suspicion of concussion in athletes. For your convenience, we have linked to the document for you to read and share with you club members, so as to promote best practice in this crucial area.
